Action Plan 2009-2015

This is the formation part of the action plan of the General Government in this sexennium which is to be accomplished with the help of provincial governments, formators and formandi.

General Objective

To animate, coordinate and update the process of initial formation paying attention to the preparation of formators so as to promote personal   transformation and a faithful missionary commitment in the formandi as envisaged in the directives of GPF and MFL.

First Specific objective

To make efforts to improve the formative process so that, by the end of initial formation, our missionaries will have achieved a sufficient level of personal integrity, in all dimensions of life, in order to assume responsibilities and live their missionary commitment joyfully and faithfully (GPF 12, 50, MFL. 63.1)

Lines of Action

  1. 1.To affirm and promote a shift of focus, from the contents of formation (academic courses) to the formation process (what is happening in the person of formandi) in all our formation centrs.
  2. 2.To promote an integral vision of formation in which the academic training received from educational institutions is harmonized with a holistic formation for missionary life and commitment to religious life.
  3. 3.Encourage the use of those resources available in the field of formation and education, to motivate and activate responsible participation of formandi in their own formation.
  4. 4.To carry out periodic visits to the formation centers, so as to encourage and assist a personalized and holistic formation, in accordance with our norms and goals of formation.
  5. 5.To animate and encourage the periodic revision of provincial/delegation formation plans, in the light of GPF and subsequent development in the formation scene, and their implementation through realistic and effective community and personal projects.

Second Specific objective

To assist the provinces and delegations in the preparation and formation of formators encouraging their mutual -collaboration so that they can effectively facilitate the process of discernment and vocational growth of the formandi. (MFL 63.3)

Lines of Action

  1. 1.Insist and assist the preparation of an adequate number of suitable formation personnel in the formation centres
  2. 2.Continue to offer the course of SHM, improving it to meet the directives of MFL.
  3. 3.Support the formators by encouraging the preparation of helpful formation resources and facilitating their distribution (MFL 63.4)
  4. 4.Organize an encounter of formation prefects in order to facilitate co responsibility, mutual sharing and collaboration in the area of formation.
  5. 5.Create a team (committee) of formators drawn from the conferences to assist the General Prefect of formation to carry out formative initiatives in their respective geographic areas.
  6. 6.Organize formative encounters at regional levels to assist the formation of formators providing adequate follow up.
  7. 7.encourage and empower theto provide meaningful presence and accompaniment in the vocational journey of the formandi encouraging them to work always as a team when accompanying formation.

Third Specific Objective

To give attention to the charismatic dimension of formation in order to deepen the sense of belonging to the congregation (MFL 54).

Lines of Action

  1. 1.Promote the knowledge of Claretian History and a deeper study of our Founder and Claretian role models.
  2. 2.Improve the website with respect to formation so as to share formation material and to promote better communication among formators.
  3. 3.Integrate elements of the dynamics of the ‘ForgeProgramme’ into our formative process in collaboration with the Prefecture of Spirituality.
  4. 4.Reinforce the dynamics of the Claretian week so as to strengthen the formation of the Claretian identity.
  5. 5.Animate a systematic and planned program to make our formation centres ‘Schools of the Word’ (MFL 59.1).

Fourth Specific Objective

Consolidate and deepen an awareness of the intercultural dimension of formation in order to embrace meaningfully the growing intercultural reality of the congregation and the society.

Lines of Action

  1. promote a formation that insists on the practice of dialogue in the interactions of cultural and religious groups       and encourage the cultivation of spiritual and psychological skills needed for this dialogue.
  2. Diffuse and consolidate reflection and praxis on the theme of intercultural community living and implement the conclusions of the workshop held in Vic in 2008.
  3. Promote and support adequate       preparation of students   before sending and receiving them into new organisms.

Fifth Specific Objective

Encourage the development of language and writing skills in the formandi in order to be effective in the apostolate and to facilitate communication within the congregation.

Lines of Action

  1. Work towards enabling all claretians to have an active or passive knowledge in either one of the present official languages (Spanish and English) of the congregation when their native tongue is different, and both in the case of the native speakers of either of the official languages.
  2. Insist on the serious study of native languages in order to strengthen an inculturated commitment in our missions.
  3. Encourage the formation centres to facilitate the study of languages in various ways, for example the creation of a language section in our libraries.
  4. Promote systematic programmes for learning languages at the regional levels.
  5. Encourage writing skills in the formandi to affirm the apostolate of the written word.

Sixth Specific Objective

Give special attention to the pastoral dimension of formation , orientating it to our missionary options

Lines of Action

  1. Reinforce the JPIC dimension in the planning and evaluation of the pastoral programs of our formation centres giving adequate formation to the formandi in this regard. Encourage a systematic study of the social teaching of the Church       during initial formation.
  2. Give importance to youth and vocation ministry in the formation programmes, encouraging the empowerment of skills required for this ministry.
  3. Insist on the proper accompaniment of all pastoral programmes throughout formation.
