135. Let us now look at preaching within the liturgy, which calls for serious consideration by pastors. I will dwell in particular, and even somewhat meticulously, on the homily and its preparation, since so many concerns have been expressed about this important ministry, and we cannot simply ignore them. The homily is the touchstone for judging a pastor’s closeness and ability to communicate to his people. We know that the faithful attach great importance to it, and that both they and their ordained ministers suffer because of homilies: the laity from having to listen to them and the clergy from having to preach them! It is sad that this is the case. The homily can actually be an intense and happy experience of the Spirit, a consoling encounter with God’s word, a constant source of renewal and growth.
(Excerpt from Apostolic Exhortation of Pope Benedict XVI, Verbum Domini, Nos. 59,60)
59. Each member of the People of God “has different duties and responsibilities with respect to the word of God. Accordingly, the faithful listen to God’s word and meditate on it, but those who have the office of teaching by virtue of sacred ordination or have been entrusted with exercising that ministry”, namely, bishops, priests and deacons, “expound the word of God”. Hence we can understand the attention paid to the homily throughout the Synod.

I. THE WAILINGS OF CREATION
“The skies narrate the Glory of God… “, Like the gift of His love until the end: some 100,000 million galaxies exist in the Universe. Ours – the Milky Way – contains about 400,000 million stars. Four thousand million years ago, in a small planet of so many stars, took place a singular prodigy: the appearance of life. We ignore if life also exists in other planets of the universe. Statistically it would be most probable but such a quantity of factors is required and in such a precise proportion that some deem it to be rather a cosmic exception. Be that as it may we don’t find vital vestiges in our “neighbourhood”, given the incommensurable distances that separate us from other stars, to know the answer would be impossible.
The thrust of this write up is that, the systematic study of our faith and its application in the daily life in the different thematic domains that have subsequently arisen therefrom, apart from bequeathing the whole corpus of faith and faith formation with an appreciable depth and better understanding, it has sometime on flip side inadvertently resulted to gross misunderstanding that is inhibiting the evangelization and faith formation process that it is meant to enhance.
1. HOW AND WHY JPIC AROSE IN THE CHURCH
Before considering the organization of JPIC, one needs to understand that Justice, Peace and the Integrity of Creation are, first of all, biblical values. Secondly, they are an ecclesial structure that seeks to promote in the Church, in each Christian, and in all ecclesial organisms, a commitment to these values.
